Fingerstyle guitar wizard Walter Strauss is a one man guitar festival. His music is simultaneously fiery and refined, and his multi-layered guitar work gives the impression that several instruments are playing at once. His virtuosity mesmerizes, whether in a song inspired by the vast American West or an ambitious guitar translation of traditional music from a far-flung part of the world. Walter has wowed audiences across the US, the UK and Ireland with his irresistible grooves, sensual tone, and intelligent and soulful singing. He’s collaborated with a rich array of musicians ranging from Grammy nominated kora master Mamadou Diabate, to eclectic folksters The Burns Sisters. He comes to us with his trio “Tensleep“, a constellation of long time collaborators… recording artists and touring veterans in their own rights. With Rich DePaolo on electric guitar and CMP recording artist and creative whiz Andy Rinehart on bass and keys, the band is a formidable team of seasoned artists.
“Imagine blending Bruce Cockburn’s finger-style guitar with Joni Mitchell’s flair for subtle jazz elements, and then add ethereal world rhythms and you begin to sense the extensive talent and wide-ranging influences that Walter Strauss brings together.” –Gayle Olson, Concert Presenter, Hilltown Folk, Shelburne Falls, MA
“He ain’t just Corinne West’s guitar player, he’s a first class soloist / songwriter.” –Cafe Guide
