A fiery percussive journey through the South of Italy, with a crossing of the Atlantic into Brazil. Through songs, dance, and rhythm; it will explore magic rituals, “tarantellas”, used as music therapy to cure the mythical bite of the tarantula. There will be healing chants and ritual drumming in honor of the Black Madonna “Tammorriata” love ballads… creating a new sound with acoustic and electric violin and guitars, a new Italian techno dance beat, sure to get the audience to dance and trance out with the band!

The night features Alessandra Belloni’s original compositions honoring Yemanja and Oxun, Goddesses of Love and Waters, Xango, of the Afro-Brazilian Yoruba tradition.

Performing are Alessandra Belloni on lead vocals, ritual dance, tambourines, and frame drums; Joe Deninzon on electric and acoustic violin; John La Barbera on guitar; and Peter Abazia on drum set and percussion.

“Alessandra Belloni and ‘Tarantata: Dance of the Ancient Spider’ is a revelation, utterly fascinating.” — Don Hackman, The Los Angeles Times
