Sax Life is back at the Rosendale Cafe!

Sax Life will perform suites arranged by Bob, including “Ellingtonia,” “The Prez Suite,” and Sonny Rollins’ “Saxophone Colossus.” Special for this evening will be a premiere performance of “Valley Views and Bridges, Chapter 2,” a series of impressions of the Hudson Valley. “Chapter 1” was premiered in January at Shenandoah University by the Hudson Valley Saxophone Orchestra.

Bob Shaut began the band in 1986 as a vehicle to compose and arrange for saxophone quartet and rhythm section, and soon began performing concerts at schools, jazz festivals, clubs, weddings and swing dance parties. It became a sax quartet in the late nineties for a few years, then took a few years off after the loss of key players Ron Finck and Ed Summerlin. The band is back and better than ever, having released its first CD, “The Saxophone and the Drum” with music composed by Bob Shaut. Performances will also feature music by Duke Ellington, Wayne Shorter, Thelonious Monk, and others; as well as selections from the great American songbook. Current members include Bob on alto and soprano, Dan on alto and tenor, Jim Perry on tenor, Ed Xiques on bari, Charlie Kniceley on bass, and Jeff “Siege” Siegel on drums.
