$10.00 with lesson, $5.00 for just dancing
The Rosendale Cafe is excited about their continuing series of Latin dance events on most Thursday nights, each starting with an all-levels lesson from 7:30pm to 8:30pm, and dancing until 10:30pm or so.
Dance forms may include Salsa, Mambo, Merengue, Cha Cha, and Bachata.
This week’s instructor is Argentinean Maia Martinez, who is director of Dojo Dance Company in New Windsor. Maia has a unique and energetic dancing and teaching style that involves the diversity of disciplines she has been exploring since she was a kid.
Maia’s lessons present amazing tips to improve your leading and following skills, and developing your own dancing style through exploring the musicality of Salsa music.
Born and raised in Argentina, Maia developed her own style specifically as a Salsa dancer “on 1”, and then in New York she incorporated Salsa “on 2”, allowing her to express herself with the same rhythm in a different way. As a dancer and instructor, she believes we have to respect the music and dance as the music call us to, whether it sometimes is on 1, or sometimes on 2… and that ultimately we can respect ourselves by understanding that our soul and body need to express themselves freely.
Maia’s dance background extends from ballet, Argentinean Tango, Latin dance, modern Jazz, flamingo, belly dance… and in addition to this she has achieved two other titles as self defense instructor in Argentina and Black belt in Karate Shotokan in New York, and is about to get her degree as professor in Elementary Education. Her wide multidisciplinary experience contributes to the versatility of her dancing style, and to the creation and impetus of her Dojo Dance Company.
