The Rosendale Cafe is excited to offer a continuing series of latin dance events on may Thursday nights, each starting with an all-levels lesson from 7:30pm to 9:30pm, and dancing until 10:00pm.
Dance forms include Salsa, Mambo, Merengue, Cha Cha, and Bachata. The guest instructors include Bryant ‘Drew’ Andrew, Dina Perlman, Ken Daley, and more.
Bryant ‘Drew’ Andrews has studied Salsa, Rumba, and Bachata; as well as taught in Santiago Cuba on a Professional Visa. He also studied with Darlin Garcia. Drew won 1st place two years in a row at the Philadelphia SalsaFest (2010-2011), 1st place in the San Francisco World Salsa Qualifiers, and 3rd place in the 2006 ESPN World Salsa Championship. Drew is known for his authentic Energetic Salsa style which is often referred to as “Salsa on 1” or “L.A. Style” Salsa. This exciting and sensual style of Salsa is composed of flashy moves, multiple spins, and showy footwork that make heads turn.
Dina Pearlman has been dancing since she could walk, and has been performing or teaching for much of her adult life. Her early training included ballet, modern, jazz and Afro-Caribbean styles. After living in New York City, she fell in love with Latin rhythms and picked up on salsa. Continuing formal training in Upstate New York, she won a Salsa dance contest with former partner ‘Chef Ef’ Martinez, at WAMC’s Performing Arts Studio “The Linda” in 2008, and again at the Kingston Latin Festival on The Strand, also in 2008. Dina has studied extensively with Lefty Corea, and has taken classes with Eddie Torres in New York City, and locally with Junior Ryes, Felix Ortiz, and Maia Martinez. Currently she teaches yoga and Zumba, and continues to be enthralled with incorporating body mechanics with the multi-layered rhythms of Latin music. Dancing is a joy for Dina, which she hopes to share with everyone.
