Linda’s art focuses on the natural world in the Hudson Valley, where she lives, but it is informed by a lifetime of experiences in the Near East/South Asia, and a childhood surrounded by Western fine art and botanical literature. She delights in the sheer reality of existence — that all the things we see-hear-feel-touch and taste exist at all being something to savor. This acts as a backdrop to her awareness that the world as we know it today may not be here in the not too distant future, even the rocks, earth and sky that we all take for grant.
Linda’s love of the natural world began in early childhood and her lavish application of colorful thick paint in her oil paintings is used to express the emotional depth of experiencing these fundamental elements of our existence.
She has studied at the Woodstock School of Art, the Art Students League, the NY School of Drawing & Sculpture, as well as botanical art at the NY Horticultural Society. Linda is a member of of the Woodstock Byrdcliffe Guild, Woodstock Artist Association & Museum, and the Arts Association of Kingston, among other groups. She is actively involved with various arts committees, where she curates juried and invitational shows. Her artwork has appeared in juried venues in Woodstock, Kingston, Saugerties, Glens Falls, Woodbury, (all NY state) and Noank, CT.
In addition to her book (The Sari, published by Thames & Hudson), Linda’s art-related and Asian cultural writing has appeared in Arts of Asia, Travel & Leisure, Cigar Aficionado, Ars Textrina (juried academic journal), Art & Antiques, Roll Magazine, among others. She has lectured on Asian textiles at the Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum, Fashion Institute of Technology, The Textile Museum (Washington, DC), and the Boston Museum of Fine Art. She writes a blog on artistic techniques and projects.
