Out On A Limb is an acoustic instrumental group playing styles of bluegrass, new grass, old time, jazz, Balkan, Swedish and more!
Jordan Shapiro (guitar), a new resident of Beacon, NY, has been performing bluegrass music since 1999, the year he moved to NYC to produce and write an experimental absurdist rock musical. His bluegrass band Astrograss, born out of that musical, has been active in the NYC bluegrass scene since 2003. The band performs yearly at the Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival in NY, and has released 3 full length albums of original music. In addition to bluegrass music, Jordan performs on keyboards in many different ensembles, including touring for many years in a Zappa tribute band featuring former Zappa vocalists. In 2015, Jordan toured Australia as a member of Gary Lucas’ Gods and Monsters, performing the music of Jeff Buckley and Tim Buckley, with Martha Wainwright and other vocalists. Jordan plays keyboards on upcoming release World of Captain Beefheart, a new band put together by former Beefheart guitarist Gary Lucas and ex-LaBelle vocalist Nona Hendryx. Jordan also leads a psychedelic jazz-fusion Balkan folk project called Choban Elektrik, which released its debut CD in 2014. http://AstroGrassMusic.com http://ChobanElektrik.com

He is an accomplished arranger and orchestrator, having worked on many Broadway musicals and TV shows, including the the recent hit Come from Away, Steve Martin’s Bright Star, the series Once Upon a Time, A Christmas Story Live, and Disney’s Descendants. He is a Grammy nominated producer (2017), Tony nominated orchestrator (2016), as well as twice nominated for the Drama Desk Award. http://AugustEriksmoen.com

Today, he plays in a variety of groups ranging in styles including blues, jazz, rock, folk, pop, soul, roots, and fusion.
In 2008, he won second place in the International Generations Jazz Competition in San Francisco, CA. At the music conservatory at SUNY Purchase in New York, he studied under great jazz musicians and educators including Doug Weiss, Kermit Driscoll, Javon Jackson, Ralph Lalama, Jimmy Greene, and Charles Blenzig. http://NateAllenMusic.com/
Ryan Drickey (fiddle) will be joining us on this occasion! For Ryan, music is not only a way of life, it’s a way to experience the world in which we live. A lifelong student of musical styles, Ryan immersed himself first in classical music, eventually earning a Masters degree in violin from the University of Colorado at Boulder. There he studied jazz in addition to classical violin, which began his fascination with American musical traditions.
Ryan’s investigation of his own musical roots has led Ryan back through time: from modern jazz improvisation concepts, through bluegrass fiddling, old-time American fiddle styles, and across the Atlantic to the musical traditions of Ireland, Sweden and Norway.
Ryan is a Fulbright scholar, having spent a year in Sweden teaching American roots music at the Royal College of Music, Stockholm, while learning from Swedish folk masters such as Roger Tallroth, Ale Moller, and Ellika Frisell. http://RyanDrickey.com
