March 04, 2018
An opening reception from 2:00pm-4:00pm, for artist Janet Howard-Fatta’ exhibition entitled “Music Sheet Nudes – gouache on vintage music sheet”.
The work will be displayed in the Cafe during the month of March 2018.
When creating this Music Sheet Nude series, I work directly from life. I facilitate a drawing group in Warwick, NY, where we draw from a live model. I am most attracted to the way the light falls on the model. How the backlit dark shapes connect and how the light softly turns on the form seduce me. What attracted me to the vintage music sheet paper was its ethereal quality. I like the way watercolor responds to the paper and matching the lyrics with the pose. These drawings are done from usually 20 minute poses, with gouache or watercolor, on vintage music sheet paper.
Hudson Valley fine artist Janet Howard-Fatta creates a variety of works from landscapes in oil depicting place and time, to figurative works in wet and dry media. Light, color and a love of nature are the driving forces behind her work.
Janet received a BFA in painting at Pratt Institute. Currently she paints events on weekends and is a board member of the Orange County Arts Council and Wickham Works, a makerspace that is in development in the Hudson Valley. Janet facilitates the Warwick Life Drawing Group at Milkweed Community Space and the Seligmann Center. She lives in the Hudson Valley, in Warwick, NY.
