Miss Tess is a New York City based songwriter and performing musician, who tours regularly with her band, as Miss Tess and The Talkbacks. In addition to Tess’ tasty licks and prowess on her 1940s archtop guitar, the current lineup includes Will Graefe on guitar, Larry Cook on upright bass, and Matt Meyer on drums. Inspired by styles of vintage swing, blues, country, and early rock-n-roll; Miss Tess draws comparisons to artists such as Patsy Cline, Willie Nelson, Peggy Lee, and Chuck Berry, but maintains a style all of her own.
“Sweet Talk is an unabashed reminder that there’s nothing wrong with casting a wide net… Her versatility is a rejoinder to how we expect to put musicians into neat little boxes according to genre.” –The Boston Globe
“Miss Tess’ Sweet Talk is a doozy, a fantastic mix of old-time country, jazz and swing… I imagine live they’re a cracking night out, and it’s to the credit of both Tess and her band that they’ve recreated all that fun on a shiny silver disc.” –Leiceister Bangs
“Where to start the hyperventilating hyperbole for Sweet Talk, I have no idea… daring and talented, a band of hybrid visionaries led by a honky-tonkin’ chanteuse.” –FAME
“One of America’s best kept secrets… a singer with incredible talent [who] creates a stunning late night, haunted feel.” (5 out of 5 stars) –Country Music People (U.K.)
