In their last appearance at the Rosendale Caf, it was a completely sold out show, met with a thunderous reception from all who attended.
Steeped in the gypsy jazz tradition, Metropolitan Hot Club celebrates the music made popular by legendary guitarist Django Reinhardt, and jazz violinist Stephane Grappelli. An impressive repertoire of period music, newer favorites, and a growing body of original compositions make for an unforgettable listening experience.
The ensemble is Michael Boyle on guitar, Michael Snow on violin, Aaron Lieberman on guitar, and Martin Keith on bass. They recreate the feeling of one of the most exciting eras of jazz, a time when the sounds coming from the cafes and clubs of Paris at the hands of a gypsy guitarist and virtuoso violinist traveled around the world, profoundly affecting the shape of jazz to come. This music is currently experiencing a renaissance, and can be heard in movie soundtracks, on television, and at jazz festivals worldwide. Come hear it live from this very talented group of musicians.
“Metropolitan Hot Club is one of the best of the Django-inspired groups and certainly the most fun. Their playing exemplifies the spirit and swing of Jazz’s golden age.” –Jack Kleinsinger, Highlights in Jazz
“MHC has the ability to transport you to many different places: a jazz club lounge dancing the tango, a gypsy caravan’s campfire, front row seat at the orchestra, or a lovely corner table at the best restaurant.” –Patricia Mazo, Bodles Opera House
