The Cafe is excited to present the celebrated Melissa Ferrick in a raw, rootsy, and Americana/alt-country performance.
Regarded as one of the most prolific & hardworking artists in the industry, Melissa Ferrick tours regularly and plays to packed houses across the U.S., performing upwards of 100 shows a year. She has shared the stage with Morrissey, Marc Cohn, Paul Westerberg, Dwight Yoakam, John Hiatt, Weezer, Tegan and Sara, G-Love & Special Sauce, Dan Bern, Ani DiFranco, k.d. Lang, Suzanne Vega, Shawn Colvin, Mike Doughty, The Indigo Girls and among many others.
Ferrick’s life has always been an open book. Signed to Atlantic Records in the mid-’90s, she helped represent a new wave of alt-rock females… including artists like Liz Phair, PJ Harvey and college-mate Paula Cole… who sang about womanhood with sharp, unchecked honesty. Morrissey proved an early champion when he personally invited her to tour as his opening act, and Ferrick eventually went on to found her own label and release a number of albums in which she played every instrument herself. Her life took dips and turns along the way, and she chronicled every detail in her songwriting.
Her impressive career longevity as a predominantly independent artist is virtually unheard of in today’s industry, and speaks to her talent and the world she has built for herself.
