After two successful concerts celebrating local elders in 2016, SageArts is launching a new project called Carrying the Torch: Songs of Remarkable Women. To honor the centennial of Women’s Suffrage in New York State, this project will celebrate women elders in our community who have devoted their lives to empowering women and advocating for women’s rights.
To raise funding for this project, SageArts is hosting this launch party at the Cafe from 4:00pm to 6:00pm. Concert Director Julie Last and songwriters Heather Masse, Mark Brown, and Kelleigh McKenzie will perform. We will introduce our unique, community-based fundraising campaign, sponsored by CauseVox, which helps non-profits gain support for new projects.
Planned for the fall of 2017, the actual Carrying the Torch: Songs of Remarkable Women event will consist of both a concert and an intergenerational forum, where young women will engage in a dialogue with women elders, to share experiences about their lives and the ongoing struggle for women’s rights. The concert and forum will take place in the fall of 2017.
Please come and support SageArts’ latest concert effort!
SageArts is an intergenerational arts project located in New York’s Hudson Valley, that promotes social inclusion and dignity for elders in our communities. We pair elders with local artists to collaborate on original songs that define and celebrate their life experiences.
