Artist Statement

When creating this Music Sheet Nude series, I work directly from life. I facilitate a drawing group in Warwick, NY, where we draw from a live model. I am most attracted to the way the light falls on the model. How the backlit dark shapes connect and how the light softly turns on the form seduce me. What attracted me to the vintage music sheet paper was its ethereal quality. I like the way watercolor responds to the paper and matching the lyrics with the pose. These drawings are done from usually 20 minute poses, with gouache or watercolor, on vintage music sheet paper.
