Artist Statement

Initially the show was inspired by my interest in the journey of the butterfly: her metamorphosis from a caterpillar, her relationship to the beatific flowers, and her journey to Mexico or other places where butterflies go. I was influenced by the beautiful colors of the flowers that interest butterflies. I kept painting and adding more and more colors. And then I began cutting up the paintings and found myself with lots of scraps, and then the scraps became precious in their own right, so I put them together into complete pieces. And voila! I hope you enjoy the show.

Artist Bio

Felicia Flanagan is something of an outside artist in the medium of watercolor, having never taken a class. She holds a BA in Visual Arts and a BFA in Ceramics from SUNY New Paltz. Up until now she has shown ceramics and photography. This is her first painting exhibit, and includes watercolors and encaustics.

In addition to being an artist, Felicia works with children at Wild Earth and Mohonk Mountain House. She is passionate about walking her dog in the forest, playing music with the ukulele club, performing children’s entertainment as Rainbow the Magical Clown with her fellow merrymaker Lovejoy, and being part of an amazing community in Rosendale.
